Hyperbaric Technician

A Hyperbaric Technician will maintain and safely operate all hyperbaric chambers and related equipment for the assigned center. Will ensure patient and facility safety at all times and will communicate effectively to the team on all types of related issues, as appropriate. Directly responsible to the Program Manager for all daily activities.

Requirements

  • Must provide documentation or credentials of attending an accredited school providing basic medical training.
  • Will attend a company funded UHMS certified training course for CHT, if not attended within past 2 years or currently a CHT.
  • Be prepared to sit and pass the CHT or CHRN exam after 12 months of employment.
  • Maintain currency of BLS certification.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides patient and family member education on the safety regulations of the pressurized environment and various valsalva techniques for pressure equalization during treatment.
  • Carries out hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment protocols as prescribed by the Hyperbaric Physician.
  • Maintains observation and close supervision of the patients and the hyperbaric systems during the course of hyperbaric oxygen treatment. Reports unusual occurrences to the Hyperbaric Physician and Program manager and records treatment information on company forms provided.
  • Performs daily check-off procedures for initial start-up and shut-down of chambers, bulk oxygen system, and all other related equipment.
  • Performs preventive and any other required maintenance on the hyperbaric system as directed by the company Director of Safety and Technical Services.
  • Maintains operating, maintenance and safety logs and other required documentation. Signs all logs as specified in departmental policy and procedure.
  • Maintains the cleanliness of the hyperbaric oxygen therapy equipment as per departmental policy and procedure.
  • Assists with transport of patients, as required.
  • Assists in maintaining an appropriate inventory of all departmental supplies, as requested by the Program Manager.
